This year promises to be a pretty hectic one for me. I switched jobs at the end of 2017 and starting this past January, I went back to school. Between establishing a new routine and committing to studying, I have not had a lot of time for reading and reviewing books. This month I finally felt like I was starting to get all my extracurricular/non-work related stuff back on track.
This month has been a good one for reading, with all the snow storms that we had, I had a lot of time to sit, blanket myself and enjoy some books. This month I finished reading 3 books, 1 audiobook, 1 cookbook, and 1ARC.
I read Douglas Adam's The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, which I loved. This was such a funny book and I loved the style of it and how creative it was. I had tried to read it once before and had not been that into it, but this second time, I was hooked.
I read Alice Hoffman's The Marriage of Opposites, amazing. I have wanted to read Hoffman's work for a while, in particular Practical Magic, but while browsing my local library I found this gem and decided to make it my first of her works to read. I was not disappointed. I'm a sucker for a story that expands through generations and I really liked the magical realism of this story in particular.
I read Long Black Veil by Jennifer Finney Boylan, which is about a group of friends and a tragedy they share. This was a bit of a meh for me, not super impressed by it.
I listened to The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin, which was amazing. I had heard so much about this book, and I was not disappointed. I loved how different the siblings were, I loved how it connected this family. So many issues were discussed or hinted at, so many things wrong in their individual lives. It was well written and kept me hooked.
Overall I had a pretty good reading month, I do have a few books that I started reading this month but have not gotten to finish and books that I got from the library that did not get opened.
AKA The Expats, Dark Matter, and The Sex Lives of Cannibals
Have you read any of the books I did or plan on reading? Any reading recommendations based on what I've read? Let me know.
